Passing is of critical importance to the game because it sets up almost every scoring opportunity. Passing is the quickest and most effective way to move the puck around the playing surface because puck movement is faster than player movement.
There are essentially two types of passes: forehand and backhand, but there are different types of forehand and backhand passes including the sweep pass, flip pass, the high flip pass, and the drop pass. The two most important aspects of passing are hitting the intended target and deception or manipulation of the puck so that it is not intercepted.
